Terragraphs (between river and sea) 2025, 45cm x 35cm, plaster of paris, sand, earth and stone

Terragraphs—from the Latin for “land picture” or “land symbol” is a developing body of work created within the Suffolk coastal landscape. I find, make or accentuate symbols in the landscape, rill marks left by retreating tides, images drawn by children or the feet of gulls and cast them in plaster of Paris.

Each piece becomes an imprint of place, shaped by natural forces and artistic intention. The work requires attunement to systems beyond my control: shifting tides, changing weather and the instability of wet ground. There is a tension between the calm of working outdoors and the difficulty of working within its fluctuating conditions. Each Terragraph marks a small journey, an attempt to let the world in and uncover the symbols already present in the land.
